Significant events

• “Following the year end, the company received a Notice of VAT assessment dated 29 April 2025 for £474,600 (based on estimated figures) in respect of the period from 1 February 2021 to 30 April 2021, and a Notice of VAT assessments dated 24 July 2025 for £2,429,625 (also based on estimated figures) in respect of the periods from 1 May 2021 to 31 January 2022. The assessments have been made on the basis of HMRC's belief that protein milk drinks should be standard-rated as 'sports drinks' for VAT purposes (under the Value Added Tax Act 1994 Schedule 8, Group 1, Excepted Item No. 4A). Detailed reasoning and revised assessments (based on actual sales figures) from HMRC are awaited. The company intends to take any necessary steps to appeal the assessments on the basis of its belief (having taken legal and accounting advice) that the protein milk drinks are not 'sports drinks' and have been appropriately treated as zero-rated for VAT purposes. If further VAT assessments were raised covering the period to the balance sheet date, this would result in additional assessments of circa £13.8m.”
