“The directors have considered financial forecasts for the 20-month period through to July 2027 when assessing whether the going concern basis is appropriate. The company made a profit in 2025 of £16,700 (2024: profit of £5,074) and at 31 July 2025 had net current liabilities of £3,020,966 (2024: £3,021,666) and net debt of £2,685,021 (2024: £2,492,287). This comprises a working capital loan with its parent entity, the University of Leicester, for which no covenants are attached and the balance is repayable on demand. The performance in the year reflects the continuing impact of the post Covid-19 operations on campus where outlets have experienced reduced footfall with staff hybrid working and the additional impact of the cost-of-living crisis. However, this still reflected growth from the previous year. The company has forecast its financial performance through the going concern period, forecasting a profit of £384,000 in financial year 2026 and a profit of £399,000 in financial year 2027, as a result of a commercial review resulting in an effort to reduce fixed costs, reduce headcount, create an agile and flexible workforce, and implement a remodelled business shape and size. The University of Leicester has provided confirmation to the directors that it will provide financial support to the company, as required to meet its external liabilities, throughout the going concern period. The extent of the support offered has been based on a worst case scenario where, were the company to close, payments to staff would continue to be required over a short term period. This is considered by management to be highly unlikely, as historic losses made by the company have not been experienced to the extent of the support offered. The directors have confirmed the University is capable of providing this financial support and recognises the service offered by the company is essential to the student and staff experience and therefore is integral to the University of Leicester group. On this basis, the directors believe it remains appropriate to prepare the accounts on a going concern basis.”
