“While core Scottish Government funding has been confirmed until 31 March 2026, the directors are aware that uncertainty exists over the extent of this funding for 2026/27 and beyond. This funding is yet to be confirmed, however it is noted that a significant uplift in grant was awarded in 2025/26 to deliver a capital programme and a new Museum Futures initiative, as a collaboration between MGS, Scottish Government and the National Lottery Heritage Fund. This collaboration is within a context in which the Scottish Government has made a commitment to increase funding to the culture portfolio by another £30m in 2026/27. MGS will continue to make the case for museums to receive a fair proportion of this funding. Having taken the above into account, together with existing reserves and available cash funds, the directors remain satisfied that the charity is able to continue to operate for at least 12 months from the point these financial statements are approved and that it is appropriate that the accounts are prepared on a going concern basis.”

• “The successful delivery of the second Strategy Symposium in February 2025, which was fully booked. We welcomed 178 delegates in person and 97 online. Through our keynote speaker, Professor David Olusoga, and various sessions and workshops, we were able to highlight and foster discussions on the strategy's key priority areas while also strengthening our connections with the sector and other stakeholders.”
• “We organised and helped to facilitate, 'What's Repatriation Actually', a public event at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. The event aimed to encourage a public conversation among Black people, people of colour, and/or those who identify as part of the Global Majority in Scotland, to explore what rematriation, repatriation, and restitution (RRR) in Scottish museums currently looks like and should look like in the future.”
